How To Stay Organized When Traveling
Our purpose behind Vital Ventures is to stay organized.
Traveling can be a hassle not only with choosing your hotel and flight options, but with the actual packing and getting to where you are headed. We like to have a checklist that we always refer to when we are packing just to make sure we have all of the essentials and we always make note of what we can do to make the overall experience a lot less stressful the next time. When we travel, we don’t want to make all the events of traveling difficult so we are here to explain a few tips and tricks that you should take into account when your planning you next holiday. We hope this helps!
Download Your Vacation Itinerary: Our first and number one obvious tip would be to use our online holiday itinerary planner to plan your trip and then download your itinerary to your phone or print to bring along with. When traveling abroad there is the constant struggle of not having your cellular data at your disposal so you want to have all of your essential information offline and accessible.

-
Google maps even allows you to have offline portions of a map downloaded so when your offline you will still be able to search for anything in the area. Do this before you head to your destination, it can be a lifesaver even if you use it just to find the closest cafe with free wifi!
-
And if you can’t download certain information or maps then take screenshots or print them out if you need to but, the last thing you want is to be stranded in a country you are not familiar with.
-
Speaking on this point, familiarize yourself with the area before you get there! Don’t go as far as learning every street and what’s on every corner but at least where the proper taxi pick up location is or where to rent a car, general vicinity of your first destination (hotel, friend’s house, restaurant). This little preparation can save so much time and headache and once you get settled in you can look up the area even more.
-
Always check battery life on all electronic devices before departing. The last thing you want is to get on the plane to listen to some music or get some work done on a laptop and come to find out that it’s dead and all your chargers are in your checked bag. Consider having a fully charged high end Portable Charger on you at all times, just in case!
Since we’ve been to several different countries we do have a few staples we bring along with us on every trip to make the ride a little bit easier.
Travel Passport Wallet
Our first organizational essential would be our traveling passport wallet mainly because it helps us keep track of all of the essential items in the same vicinity, which is important for trips to the airport. It’s an all in one wallet that will fit in a purse, if that makes sense. It does all the functions of a normal wallet, holds credit cards, ID, cash and coins but then it takes it a step further with slits to hold your boarding pass, passport, phone, extra sim card and more. It also has an RFID blocking shield so wireless theft is eliminated with this super hi-tech wallet. We absolutely love using this wallet for trips abroad because the airport can be a bit frantic from check-in to boarding time.
• Instead of holding your passport with you at all times during your trip, opt for keeping a copy of your passport handy or a picture on your phone in need of emergencies. Plus its better to keep your passport under lock and key in your hotel so you avoid the pickpockets. Remember, it really is your lifeline!
TSA Approved Luggage Locks
Next would be luggage locks because the one thing that can ruin some Grade A suitcase organization is some unwanted company rustling through your bag in search for some goodies. Now, the key to luggage locks are the first two words, TSA Approved. We’ve had countless un-approved locks broken by TSA agents on the first leg of a trip which then resulted in insecure bags for the entire adventure. Bite the bullet, spend the money to get TSA approved ones, and then peace of mind will allow you to enjoy your trip even more. Plus you can use them to store valuables in your suitcases while at home in between ventures.
Cable Organizer Bag
No matter how long a trip is usually there are a plethora of cords involved with traveling. Phone, computer, smart devices etc. But how many of you decide to just throw all your cords in the one small backpack pocket only to play an intense, prolonged game of untangle when you finally need that one cord or pair of headphones? I know I have, but that’s why we love to bring our cord organizer along with us to store all of our cords. We have one large one to hold pretty much all small electronics and cords (GoPro, external HD and charger, all cords and memory sticks) and then a smaller, thinner one to take on day trips. This not only is great for organization but you also will never have to search for an individual cord ever again. You will know that it’s in your cord case along with everything else you could need.
Kipling Bag
Another huge enhancer of our organizational experience while traveling is using this lunch bag as a toiletry bag. I know it seems odd that we changed the purpose of this bag, but the great part is that there is a liner that is easy to clean and if anything decides to explode on you while your traveling and everything will be A-OK. Another plus is that it can hold a ton of stuff and has an adjustable strap so that you can hang it up. We absolutely love using this and for two people we don’t really need anything else.
Packing Cube Set
Packing Cube Set
When it comes to organizing our suitcase for a trip we have it pretty down packed, literally. Any experienced traveler knows that rolling is the best method to not only maximize the amount of clothes you can bring but it can keep everything organized as well if done correctly (more on this in another blog). When it comes to the cubes there are so many different brands on the market and we just went with the one on amazon with the best and most reviews but they all look similar. Shacke is great because of the flexible material that it’s made of.
These are a few of our go to items that we will use on almost any trip we go on, but remember, the best thing you can start by doing to stay organized is using the online holiday itinerary planner at yourvitalventures.com .
